Difference between “Bamboo” and “Sasa”
There are about 670 types of bamboos in Japan. “Sasa”, also known as broad leaf bamboo, has at most one branch per node. Shinodake, Nemakaridake, Suzudake and Ryuukyuuchiku are classified as Sasa. “Take”, usually bark of bamboo comes off after growing up, is larger than Sasa. Madake, Mousouchiku and Hachiku are classified as “Take”. Houraichiku, classified as tropical bamboo, is one of the few bamboo species in Japan.
